My Education Philosophy

I believe the primary role of a teacher is that of a facilitator,
one who "guides" more than "instructs".

Meaningful learning is achieved through various channels.

Deeper learning requires ownership.
My desire is to build a community of learners.  Students will experience “autonomy” by feeling a sense of “control” over their classroom rules, and the overall learning environment. We will work together to create rules that define their rights as learners, and their responsibilities to each other. Students will also help to create the classroom’s physical decor; by designing and arranging the classroom display areas.

Deeper learning encourages engagement.
I will strive to create a unique learning environment that engages the students through active involvement, participation, and collaboration.

Deeper learning is social.
Knowing and addressing each other “by name” is essential to building our community.  It is also important that we get to know our class members—their likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses.

Deeper learning is contextual.
My goal is to prepare and present both group and individualized enriching learning experiences. Carefully comprised mini lessons will be explicitly presented in a format that is geared to reach all learner types.  Students will be given ample time to practice their newly learned skills—through small group and independent work.  Assessments geared to identify the student’s overall level of understanding will be conducted, analyzed, and documented.  When necessary, we will revisit curriculum, and/or modify lessons to reach all learner’s needs.

Deeper learning is active.
Everyone will work together to learn and grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically!

My goals are to...

  • Promote child development and learning with the use of developmentally appropriate curriculum, actvitites, and instructional techniques
  • Strengthen family and community relationships through active involvement
  • Encourage positive relationships and social competencies
  • Model positive relationships and social competencies ( in other words, "practice what I preach")

I desire to...
  • Teach with Intentionality
  • Serve my students and their families
  • Work to create a caring community of learners

As an educator, I will strive to...
  • Demonstrate intentionality in every aspect of my teaching career
  • Encourage, demonstrate, and build positive relationships with my students, and thier families--both inside and outside of the classroom
  • Recognize the uniqueness in each and every one of my students
  • Prepare and Present both group and individualized enriching learning experiences
  • Provide the appropriate level of guidance
  • Help my students reach their fullest potential
  • Create a caring community of learners
  • Equip my students to learn, grow, and go--onto their next chapter of life!

I believe that EVERY CHILD...
  • Has been uniquely created
  • Is capable of learning
  • Can and will succeed if provided the appropriate level of guidance, instruction, and encouragement
